Ruffles
- One of the strongest trends this spring is ruffles – but beware - there are some tips that make them wearable without looking too juvenile, theatrical or over-the-top girlie!
- Ruffles add volume so do not put them in an area that you do not want “enhanced.”
- Frothy frills and flounces are not meant to be worn in professional work environments.
- The modern way to wear ruffles is to pair them with something tailored. The contrast creates a welcome “edge”
- When in doubt - try this trend on accessories: shoes, bags, or jewellery.

#2 Do the Blue Hue
Blue
- Colour plays such an important part in our lives. Used properly, it is a powerful tool in the development of a strong sense of personal style. Colour gets you noticed; it refreshes, stimulates or soothes. . . and it can make you smile.
- Uplifting is the word that keeps repeating over and over again from designers - when describing the colors they have chosen for spring 2010.
- Blue is a universal color, the color of the sky and the sea. It is a foolproof fashion staple – there isn’t a shade that it doesn’t look good next to.
- If your closet lacks colour - then refuse to buy any more navy, beige, brown or black until your wardrobe is more vibrant. Where do you start? Do blue.

Nude
- In contrast to strong vibrant colour -there has been a move toward a more muted palate this spring. While neutral flesh tones have been popular in footwear and makeup over the past several seasons, they are now turning up in apparel.
- The new nudes look best when they are a different shade than your actual skin tone. That way, the look is soft and feminine, but you won’t appear washed out or worse - almost naked. Try mixing nudes with black, brown, grey or navy too.
- When it comes to nude fabrics, make sure they're not too tight; body-hugging silhouettes look like another layer of skin, which often isn't very flattering.
- Nude colour shoes lengthen the leg and make you look taller – bonus!

Safari
- Designers are showing a little love for the jungle again this season. Look for safari inspired jackets, dresses, capris and shorts as well as animal prints various warm shades of brown and khaki.
- Start with a jacket, dress or cargo pant and build your look from there. Add accessories with exotic touches: wooden jewelry, open toe chunky sandals or wedges and tortoise shell sunglasses.
- Even though safari style has been around forever – make it your own by adding little pops of color. Metallic accessories and sandals make the clothes modern this season.

Flowers
- With floral prints, you need to make sure you choose the right scale for your body type. Petites should avoid big, bold prints, which will swallow you up and make you look even shorter. Larger women should steer clear of small prints, which can emphasize your size.
- Avoid wearing florals in an area you want to hide. To bring attention to a feature you like, wear florals in that area. If you have a good bust- wear a floral blouse instead of a floral skirt or floral pants (and not many can wear floral pants!!!).
- Choose florals that fall in the same color family as what you already own so they don't look out of place in your existing wardrobe. Coordinating prints will actually help pull your outfits together.
- Florals tend to look best in soft, flowing materials, as the floral design will only make bulky materials appear bulkier. Larger frames should stick to streamline fabrics so you don't create the effect of extra pounds.

Silver Accessories
- When wearing sliver clothing keep the shape simple, accessories to a minimum and hair and makeup soft.
- Silver metallic shoes have become a staple for daywear as well as evening (no longer just for proms and weddings) They make everything you pair with them seem – just a bit more adventurous.
- Add a bit of a twist by wearing jewelry that mixes gold and silver. Modern jewelry design has married the two metals into jewelry and accessory designs that look fantastic and blend seamlessly. Mixing brightens up the silver and adds contrast.

Trench
- With most clothing classics – my advice is to always look for the simplest styles – that is until it comes to the trench coat. Here you want to look for lots of detailing, storm flaps and epaulets (which testify to the coat’s military origins) and lots of great topstitching.
- You will want the coat to fit perfectly but not look skimpy. Belts on cuffs and waist are to be worn tightened (so the rain does not get in) and generous collars flip up for instant attitude.
- The trench is an investment everyone should make as it looks attractive on every body type. As always buy the best you can afford. Strong influences this season include featherweight fabrics, leather, cropped sleeves, ruffles and shorter lengths.

Sky High Heels
- Originally shoes were designed to protect one's feet from the elements - but they have evolved from their practical origins - to far reaching heights.
- High heel shoes have become the ultimate source of personal expression while providing feelings of authority and independence. They are desired, coveted and sought after.
- Women choose to wear high heels often at the expense of their own physical comfort – and for spring summer 2010 - it is not difficult to understand why.

Oversize Tote
- No matter how much space you have, try not to be tempted to load your tote with more than you actually need. An oversized designer bag may be large and trendy but that does not mean that it needs to contain everything but the kitchen sink! Edit well and often.
- Big bags have the effect of making most women look slimmer. Unless you are extremely petite, oversized bags make their owner look delicate in comparison.
- Pick a bag that is your opposite: if you are “roundish” - a streamlined bag will look best and if you are on the lean side – borrow some curves from a bag with rounded lines.

#10 Hot and Gold
Gold
- Gold is associated with wealth, glamour and of course winning. In fashion it is an easy colour to wear with a few fashion tips in mind.
- Incorporate gold shoes into your daytime wardrobe by selecting matte or pale shades. Think of gold as an alternative to beige or brown, and you'll find the possibilities are endless when styling your outfits.
- Avoid overloading yourself with too many gold accessories: it will end up looking “too much”.
- Forget about any previous rules that ban wearing gold and silver together. It looks fabulous and for spring 2010 – is the trend!
